Texas Haul

Hello!

I thought I would put together a short post about the things I bought while I was on vacation in Texas. I hope you enjoy and please leave any future blog post requests down below in the comments.

Makeup:

At Sephora I bought Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation in Fair Neutral because it felt lightweight and they had a really light shade (pale girl problems). I already can tell it will be a favorite! I want to purchase the concealer that goes with it soon. I also picked up Sephora Collection Rouge Balm in Subtle Peony. This formula feels amazing on the lips and has good color payoff. I want the red shade and possibly a neutral one at some point. I had points racked up so I got a mini Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace. I was scared to get it because neutrals don’t usually look good on me, but I love this one! I also grabbed Benefit Roller Lash Mascara to try. At a Mac counter in Dillard’s I picked up a Mac Mineralize Skinfinsh in Light. I haven’t used it yet, but I am excited to try it! At Ulta I was planning on picking up a few more things, but they were out of stuff I wanted. I picked up another Maybelline Color Tattoo Crayon in Barely Beige. Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer in Light because I love the foundation. A Nyx Matte Lip Creme in Seoul which scared me, but I love the way it looks on! Plus another Nyx Butter Gloss in Cranberry Biscotti (I adore this formula). Real Techniques had a buy one, get one 50% off sale at the time so I got another Miracle Complexion Sponge and a Blush Brush.

Makeup

Jewelry:

I bought most of the jewelry I got at Charming Charlie’s. If you have never been to one you need to go! I buy a lot of my jewelry there because it is good quality that isn’t pricey. Plus if you sign up for their rewards program you get coupons in the mail regularly. I bought the earrings and curved silver and black rhinestone necklace from a Swarovski store at an outlet mall because they had a rack of stuff for 75% off. I purchased the three rings at Dillard’s.

Random:

At Ulta I picked up an electric travel toothbrush because it was on sale. I also found the mirror to travel with because I hate just having mirrors in palettes to use. This one folds down to be thin and compact. At Victorias Secret I got Very Sexy Now Fragrance Mist which smells like summer in a bottle, but a little deeper.

Clothing:

Francesca’s was having a buy one, get one 50% off all their clothes so I purchased two dresses. I thought the blue one would be great for a banquet or semi-formal type event.  I loved the print on the black and white one and thought it could be worn more causally or business like depending on how I accessorized. I found the longer dress at Windsor. In the back they had a rack filled with clearance dresses that were only $9.99. This dress was originally close to $90. When I saw this dress I immediately fell in love with it, I have been looking for this kind of style of dress for a while now. I need it tailored a bit, but I am excited to wear it. Besides what is pictured I also bought some basic t-shirts and tank tops because I needed new ones.

What I Pack When I’m Traveling

Hi everyone!

I recently traveled to Texas so I thought I would share with you what makeup products I brought with me. I will be doing a few posts in the next week or two on what I bought  and what I did while I was there. All of my makeup, brushes, toiletries, and jewelry I took with me in a travel bag I got from Sephora which is listed as The Weekender. I love that it has multiple compartments that are each a good size for what you would need to take with you. It even has a special section where you can insert your makeup brushes so they don’t get messed up. It also has a hook attached to it so you could hang it up in whatever room you are using to get ready in. Here is what the bag looks like without anything in it:

sephorasephora bagsephora bag 2

Foundation/CC Cream: Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation in 105 Classic Ivory because it lasts all day and has great coverage without feeling thick. I also brought Mary Kay CC Cream in Very Light because it is great for days I want my makeup to look more lightweight and fresh.

Concealer: Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer + Corrector in 10 Ivory and Revlon Photoready Concealer in 001 Fair because they are currently my two favorites.

Powder: L’oreal True Match Powder in N1 Soft Ivory because it gives a little bit of coverage and helps my face stay matte without looking cakey.

Blush: I brought Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Rose Champagne and Pearlescent Pink because I love the formula and they are shades that can compliment any makeup look.

Bronzer: NYC Color Mosaic Powder in All Over Bronze Glow because it is my tried and true bronzer/contour powder.

Eye Base: Wet n Wild Take On The Day Eyeshadow Primer because it is the primer I have been using lately. I also brought the Maybelline Color Tattoo Crayon in Bronze Truffle to create easy eye looks with for when I would be in a rush.

Eyeshadow: I have several eyeshadow palettes some that I even prefer the texture over, but I decided to bring my Smashbox Full Exposure Eyeshadow Palette because it contains seven shimmery shades and seven matte shades. The problem I had with bringing some of my other palettes, such as my Naked 2 which I adore, is that I felt like I would need to bring another palette that has more matte shades in it to balance out all the shimmery shades to create a full eye look. The Smashbox palette has a wide range of shades that I could get several very different looks out of it all with just using one palette. When you’re traveling I would take a close look at all the eyeshadow palettes you have and try to find just one that you could get all your eye looks done with. This saves both space and time when you’re getting ready in a rush.

Eyeliner: Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil in 200 Black Onyx because I wanted to try it some more (I only ended up using it once).

Mascara: Covergirl Clump Crusher in Very Black and Maybelline the Falsies Volum’ Express in Black Drama because those were my two opened mascaras at the time and they give two different looks. The Covergirl mascara is more for everyday and the Maybelline gives a dramatic look to the eyes.

Brows: ELF Instant Lift Brow Pencil in Taupe because it is easy and quick to use.

Lip Balm: I brought Nivea A Kiss of Milk & Honey because it feels moisturizing without being greasy and has a great scent.

Lip Color: I tried to narrow down how many lip gloss/lipsticks I brought by bringing just one or two options for a pink, red, and dark lip. For when I wanted a pink lip I brought Mally High-Shine Liquid Lipstick Pen in Petal to the Metal and Rimmel Stay Glossy Lipgloss in Treasure Hunt because they are two very different shades of pink and have a comfortable feel on the lips. For when I wanted red lips (which is frequently) I brought Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 250 Standout that provides me a matte more nightime option and ELF Lip Kiss Balm in XO Red for a easy to apply, sheer shade. I also brought Dirty Little Secret Lipstick in Vengeance so I could have a fun, deep shade that still had some brightness to it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing what I brought with me and the thought process behind bringing what I did. If you would like to see any individual reviews on products please let me know!

Dear College Freshman

You recently graduated high school and you’re preparing for college. I remember what that summer felt like two years ago, both exciting and terrifying. For many it means leaving your hometown and moving to a new environment. It is especially difficult for those of us who grew up in small towns where everyone knows everyone. I graduated from high school with many of the same people that were in my kindergarten class. My summer before freshmen year of college consisted of buying things for a dorm, creating my first class schedule (ratemyprofessor is a great tool to help you decide what professors you should take), and anticipating for August. For everyone who is scared of what the future holds at college please don’t be. College is definetly a rollercoaster, but it is one of the most thrilling ones out there. I have a few pieces of advice I would like to give you to make your first year as smooth as possible. First, even if you are a shy person put yourself out there as much as possible. Do this by going to the footballs games, talking to people in your residence hall, and getting involved in organizations. Second, get to know your professors this may sound cliché, but I can’t express how important it is to communicate with professors. Third, sometimes when things don’t work out its for the best and another amazing door opens for you. Lastly, remember why you are here (to get good grades), but don’t forget to have some fun too. Life moves so quickly, I can’t tell you how fast the last two years have gone by so cherish every moment.

Everyday Makeup Look: Drugstore Edition

Hey everyone!

Today I want to share with you a simple, light-weight makeup look that is great for summer or when you are in a time crunch. All the products I used are from the drugstore. I love high end products as much as the next person, but I love finding gems that are inexpensive. I hope you all enjoy the look and find all the steps easy to follow, lets begin!

Step 1 – Foundation: On a normal day when I am doing a quick look I don’t use any face primer. I used the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation in Classic Ivory 105 with a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I love this foundation because it feels light-weight yet has great coverage. It isn’t super matte or dewy so its perfect for my combination skin (more dry then not). It also wears throughout the day beautifully with minimal touch ups required.

Step 2 – Concealer: To help conceal my dark under-eyes I used the Maybelline Superstar Better Skin Concealer + Corrector in 10 Ivory. This concealer does a great job of concealing and doesn’t look cakey under my eyes. I buffed it in with an ELF Flawless Concealer Brush.

Step 3 – Powder: To set my foundation (just in my t-zone) and under eye concealer I used the L’oreal True Match Powder in N1 Soft Ivory. This powder keeps me matte throughout the day while adding a little bit of coverage. I applied it lightly by using an ELF Small Tapered Brush.

Step 4 – Bronzer/Contour: I used the ELF Complexion Brush to lightly dust N.Y.C. Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder in 724A All Over Bronze Glow. Despite its name this is a great matte bronzer that I use to lightly contour with. I use it under my cheekbones, around the perimeters of my forehead, and the bottom of my chin.

Step 5 – Blush: For my blush I used the Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in 326B Rose Champagne with a Coastal Scents Classic Angled Kabuki Stick. It’s a pretty rose shimmery blush that is not overly dramatic for my pale skin.

Step 6 – Eye Primer: Before I apply my eyeshadow I apply a base to help prevent creasing, increase the wear time and make the shades I use more opaque. Today I used the N.Y.C. City Proof 24 Hour Eye Primer in 001 Universal. I apply it by swiping it across my lids and patting it in with my finger. I have not had this product long, but can already tell it will be something I use frequently. It does a good job of concealing some faint eyelid discoloration and helps the eyeshadow stick on better which leads to more vibrancy and longevity.

Step 7 – Eyeshadow: After I applied my eye primer I used an eyeshadow trio by Covergirl in Shimmering Sands to create my eye look. I applied the lightest shade on the right on my upper brows and inner corners with an ELF Blending Brush. Following that I used a Coastal Scents Classic Large Shadow Brush to pat the middle taupe shade all over my lids. To add some depth I used an ELF Blending Eye Brush to lightly run the left, dark brown shade in my crease and an ELF Angled Contour Brush to concentrate the color in my outer corners. When I finish my eye look I always go over the edges with a fluffier brush today I used a Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff Brush.

Step 8 – Mascara: For an easy, everyday mascara that creates both good length and volume without clumps I used the Covergirl Clump Crusher in Very Black.

Step 9 – Eyebrows: I quickly ran Maybelline’s Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Soft Brown through my brows to lightly fill them in and hold them in place. It is not my favorite brow product, but useful for days I want to do simple, quick makeup. I want to try other brow mascaras to find one with a brush that has a better shaped applicator.

Step 10 – Lips: I topped my look off by using the Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in 135
Provocateur. I love jumbo lip pencil/balms and this one is no different. Revlon has a wonderful formula that doesn’t dry out the lips, adds a lot of color to the lips, and most importantly easy to apply.

Below is the finished look along with all the products and brushes I used:
